Our Partners

Department of Community Safety

Department of Community Safety

The Department of Community Safety is the Lab’s founding partner, and has funded us since our establishment in 2012. This support and commitment arises from the strategic objective of the Western Cape Government to make the province a safe place in which to live, work, learn, relax and move about.

City of Cape Town

City of Cape Town

The Lab has developed strong operational ties with the City, particularly through Metro Police and related functions. This was initiated through our collaboration to reshape CCTV footage for public benefit, and continues with our Nyanga activation at a City community centre. The City has also provided project-related funding.

Cape Town Partnership

Cape Town Partnership

The Lab was incubated in Cape Town Partnership from the outset, and remains co-located together with the Central City Improvement District (CCID). The Partnership is recognized as an incubator of collaborative intermediary organizations working in Cape Town and the Western Cape across an ever-widening variety of fields.

UCT Centre of Criminology

UCT Centre of Criminology

The Centre has provided thought partnership starting with the initial design principles of the Lab. This continues the Centre’s long-term involvement with social issues and research-oriented scholarship, enabling it to play a vital role influencing strategy, policy development and supporting community initiatives to ensure a more secure society.

Institute for Security Studies

Institute for Security Studies

The Institute aims to enhance human security on the continent through independent and authoritative research, expert policy analysis and advice, and practical training and technical assistance. This forms the basis of the Institute’s support to the Lab, with a key advisory role across projects and informing our methodology and activations.

Y&R Advertising

Y&R Advertising

Y&R’s Cape Town office provides valued strategic support and creative input across a range of Lab initiatives. This started with joint conceptualising of the GIVA platform. The agency was the first corporate partner to put significant investment into the Lab, true to their global mantra to ‘Resist the Usual’.
